I am honored that former Island County Assessor and retired Navy Captain Bernie Upchurch — a Republican who personally recruited me to the Assessor's Office — endorses and encourages my candidacy.

Qualifications.
Nationally Credentialed in Assessment Administration
I am one of only three IAAO members in Washington State to hold dual professional designations. I have been awarded both the Assessment Administration Specialist (AAS) and the Residential Evaluation Specialist (RES) designations from the International Association of Assessing Officers — the nation's foremost standards body for property tax assessment. Earning each designation requires passing a rigorous national exam and demonstrating expertise across assessment law, valuation, administration, ethics, and operations.
Island County deserves an Assessor who has invested in the profession before asking for your trust. The AAS and RES are more than just lines on a résumé — they represent a commitment to the competence, ethics, and accountability property owners have every right to expect from this office.
Accountability.
Accountability starts with showing up. I'll keep posted hours in the Assessor's office, work side-by-side with staff, and meet property owners where they live — at senior centers, town halls, chambers, and community meetings across Whidbey and Camano.
Public office is a public trust earned by being present.

Fairness.
Every property owner — farmer, waterfront resident, retiree, business owner — deserves a valuation built on the same standards as every neighbor. I'll keep our assessment methods consistent, our appeals process transparent and accessible.
Ethics.
The Assessor decides what your home, farm, or business is worth for tax purposes. That power demands integrity. I'll follow the professional standards set by IAAO and the Washington Department of Revenue, disclose conflicts before they become problems, and be transparent about how decisions are made. Trust can only be grown this way.
